Welcome to the Wahoo Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department.
October is Fire Safety Month The month features Fire Prevention Week October 9 thru 15. Take this time to work on an escape plan with your family. Practice Fire Safety!
August Training We spent time learning how to connect our PTO driven generator to a transfer switch. This generator can power the entire Fire Hall during in the event there is a prolonged power outage. We also spent time dividing into teams and getting some hands on with our trucks and equipment. Thank You Duracell A huge “Thank You!” to Duracell and The National Fire Council for the recent gift of batteries. This donation helps us with our day-to-day operations and protection our communities.
Wahoo Volunteer Service Anniversaries Congratulations to the members of the Wahoo Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department that are celebrating service anniversaries in
Rescue Squad training Members have recently spent several hours of classroom time and in practice learning the finer points (pun intended!) of IV’s. We have several members certified to administer IV’s.
Big Rescue Squad news! As of May 1, our department became ALS certified by the State of Nebraska. In addition to having our well-trained EMT’s, we have paramedics who are able to provide a wider variety of services. This service is available to all of the departments that make up Saunders County Mutual Aid. Rescue Squad Captain Michelle Libal says, “It’s exciting that we can now give a higher level of care. It’s another way for us to serve the community.”
Saunders County Mutual Aid Wahoo Fire will host the Saunders County Mutual Aid meeting on Tuesday, October 25 at 7:30p.m.
Extracurricular Training Our members often pursue training above and beyond what is taught at our station. This is extremely important and beneficial to our department and our community. We currently have three members working on their FireFighter 1 certification. They are: Erinn Blaske, Cory Kumpula, and Tony Grabowski. Tyler Bonnicksen, an EMT/Paramedic, just completed his Fire Fighter 1 and HAZMAT Operations classes. He recently completed all of the required courses to be a certified EMS Instructor. Great job to all for you hard work.
