Welcome to the Wahoo Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department.
A huge ”Thank You!” to the residents of Wahoo and surrounding areas for making our recent fund raiser a success.
Fire Safety Tips for Cold Months During cold weather months, please practice good fire safety at home. Do not overload circuits with space heaters and do not leave candles unattended.
Rescue Squad Training Notes Rescue Squad Training in January covered several topics. Members got the opportunity to practice testing glucose levels, inserting iv’s, and the use of a pediatric papoose. This device helps immobilize our younger patients. Click here for pictures.
Members attend Boys Town Training Five members recently attended training at Boys Town hosted by TMA Fire Fighter’s Association. Erinn Blaske, TJ Nordstrom, Duane Eivins, and Cory Kumpula took a class in Building Construction. Chris Rappl participated in Engine Company Hose Loads and Tactics.
Doc Hansen Retires from Department Long-time member Doc John Hansen recently retired from the department after 53 years of dedicated service. Thank You for your time and experience!
Wahoo Volunteer Service Anniversaries Congratulations to the members of the Wahoo Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department that are celebrating service anniversaries in January and February 2012: Duane Eivins, 1 year; Bruce Acker, 2 years; TJ Nordstrom 8 years, Phillip Nelson 9 years, Chief Corey Wagner 21 years, Joe Vculek 33 years. Thank you for your time and dedication.
Big Rescue Squad news! As of May 1, our department became ALS certified by the State of Nebraska. In addition to having our well-trained EMT’s, we have paramedics who are able to provide a wider variety of services. This service is available to all of the departments that make up Saunders County Mutual Aid. Rescue Squad Captain Michelle Libal says, “It’s exciting that we can now give a higher level of care. It’s another way for us to serve the community.”
Extracurricular Training Our members often pursue training above and beyond what is taught at our station. This is extremely important and beneficial to our department and our community. We currently have three members working on their FireFighter 1 certification. They are: Erinn Blaske, Cory Kumpula, and Tony Grabowski. Tyler Bonnicksen, an EMT/Paramedic, just completed his Fire Fighter 1 and HAZMAT Operations classes. He recently completed all of the required courses to be a certified EMS Instructor. Great job to all for you hard work.
